Updates and Information

Project progress update

We'll have the Christchurch Northern Corridor motorway project all finished before Christmas this year.

However, we will be largely out of your hair before then with all the work we are doing on local roads and QEII Drive finished by Mid-2020. This includes our work on Prestons, Radcliffe, Belfast, Guthries, Philpotts, Winters, Hills, Innes and Cranford. These roads will be free from CNC construction, traffic management and our road cones.

Work on the new motorway and SH1 will take longer due to the additional work on the Waimakariri Bridge (the extra southbound lane and the clip-on pedestrian and cycle path), the additional work to install the T2/Carpool lanes and because land settlement/consolidation has taken even longer than originally expected.

QEII Drive night closure

QEII Drive will be closed between Main North Road and Hills Road/Innes Road roundabout on Sunday night 22 March. This will allow us to remove the scaffolding surrounding the new QEII Drive Overbridge.

Due to the high traffic volumes on QEII Drive during the day we will have to do this work at night from 9pm till 6am the next morning.

Cyclists will not be affected by this closure.

There will be other work happening at night on QEII Drive as well so nearby residents will hear the noise from the machinery, a sweeper truck and the crew working at night.

More details and detour info can be found here

Help with a survey

Waka Kotahi NZ Transport Agency want to hear about your experience of travel from the North into and around Christchurch during peak hours.

They want to learn about when and how you use your vehicle, or other ways of getting from Waimakariri District or northern Christchurch to other parts of the city, during peak times – and whether that experience is a good or bad one. This information will help us make better, more informed decisions about what we can do to fix any problems.

What’s in it for me?

All completed surveys will go into the draw to win one of 20 $100 Prezzy Cards.

How long will the survey take?

It should take 10 to 12 minutes. Some of the questions repeat so we can make sure we have your view ranked correctly.

Is it anonymous?

Yes.

How do I take part?

Please click on this share my views link hosted by our trusted research partner, Nexus Research.

We recognise that the current situation with the Covid-19 virus is occupying people’s thoughts, which may include how you travel. For some questions in the survey we’ll ask you to think about your most recent journey and for others we’ll ask you to think about what you might do in the future. Please try and answer these just as you would normally, without thinking about the current unusual situation.

If you have any questions or concerns about this survey, please contact us at nztasurvey@nzta.govt.nz

Reminder - Cranford/Innes nightly closures.

The nightly closures at the Cranford Street/Innes Road intersection for road sealing should be all over by 21 March. We know the milling machine and rollers are very noisy and cause vibrations that can be unsettling. So Thank You Cranford/Innes Residents for your understanding and ongoing patience.

More information on resident access and other details can be found on our website.

Reminder - Philpotts Road Closure

The Philpotts intersection at QEII Drive will be open again by Wednesday night 25 March.

While the Philpotts Road intersection is closed, you can either use Innes Road or Main North Road to access QEII Drive. But you can still get all the way to Oderings Garden Centre via Philpotts Road.

Pedestrians and cyclists will still have access to and from the QEII shared use path at Philpotts Road.

When Philpotts first reopens, it will still be left-out only onto QEII Drive. The new permanent left-in left-out layout will be ready in early May.

More info on this part of the project is here.
