Football season kicks off

Peter Curnow —

The football season is underway, and after a couple of hiccups we have settled on five Saturday teams and the First XI and Junior XI who play in their respective mid-week competitions.

Special mention to the combined U14/U15 Team, who have merged to play in the U15 competition. This team is a result of a lot of collaboration and willingness to “just do it” and get these men representing their college playing their sport – thanks for all the effort involved in making this work.

As results pour in and achievements are tabled, there will be more in this space in coming months.

Extra special mention to one of the football community who has made national honours in one of his sports. Max Haines, from the U17 Red’s, has been selected to play for the New Zealand U15 Indoor Cricket Team at the International Tournament in Dubai in September – a fantastic effort after many years of sacrifice and hard work – again by many people.

Max reflects much of what St Bede's holds close; courage, humility, quiet determination, hard work and a willingness to embrace opportunities as they present themselves.

Thanks to all our coaches who offer their time freely and to the parents and supporters who turn up Saturdays on the side-lines.
