Rector's Report

Jon McDowall —

Kia ora,

As a Marist school we seek to form well-rounded individuals who are not only academically proficient but also spiritually grounded, compassionate, and engaged in making a positive impact in society, inspired by the Marist values of humility, simplicity, and love for God and others. The refreshed format of our school newsletter is designed to showcase our school spirit in action, while enhancing your reading experience.

As the newsletter highlights, we have much to be grateful for and much to celebrate. This past week we held our first Pockets Assembly of the year where we celebrated the hard work, dedication, and perseverance of more than 100 students who have achieved excellence across academia, the arts, sports, service and community.

The weeks ahead will be busy as we lead into Feast Day, undertake our community consultation regarding NCEA pathways, celebrate Pink Shirt Day and prepare for the introduction of new NCEA co-requisites in Year 10.

I would like to express my thanks for the support you have shown during the ongoing industrial action affecting our school. Industrial action is a form of collective action taken by our teachers and staff to address their concerns and advocate for their rights. We understand that this situation has presented some difficulties and inconveniences, and we appreciate your cooperation as both parties work towards a resolution.

We recognise the impact the industrial action may have on our school community, and we want to assure you that we are doing everything within our power to minimise disruption to the teaching and learning environment. Please note that we have no ability to select the timing of any potential strikes or rostering home of certain year levels. This is completed at a national level on behalf of all schools.

Ngā mihi nui kia koutou katoa
