SWIMMING – Canterbury Secondary School Champs

28 swimmers competed at the Canterbury Secondary School Champs on Wednesday with some great results:

Under 14

Ezra Dally - 1st - 50 M Backstroke

Will Jamieson - 3rd 50m Butterfly

Caleb Stewart - 4th 50m Butterfly

Marvin Tracey - 4th 50 m Freestyle

Marvin, Oliver Maillard, Caleb and Ezra were 2nd in the 200m Relay

Under 15

Rowan Neilsen - 2nd 50m Breaststroke

Riley Stewart – 4th 50m Butterfly

16 – 18

Jack Staples – 2nd 50m Butterfly and Archie Perriam 3rd

Callum Jones – 2nd 50m Freestyle

Callum, Archie, Callum and Harrison Finch were 3rd in the 200m Relay

Open Boys

Jack Staples – 4th 200m IM

Callum Jones – 4th 200m Freestyle

Callum, Marvin, Jack and Harrison Finch were 4th in the 200m Relay

Well done to all the swimmers that took part.

ROWING:

A great week at Maadi Cup where the boys picked up a Gold, Silver and Bronze medal.

Gold went to the U18 4 Novice - crewed by Sam Fairchild, Tom Goodland, Kaleb Hammond, Luis Guzman and Jackson Taylor was the coxswain.

Silver went to the U16 8 - crewed by Thomas Arscott, Ben Visser, Ben MacGregor, Oscar Langridge, Will O’Brien, Tom Goodland, Matty Barr, Ben Fleming and Caleb Parsons was the coxswain.

Bronze went to the U16 4 - crewed by Thomas Arscott, Ben Visser, Ben MacGregor, Oscar Langridge and Caleb Parsons was the coxswain.

Caleb Parsons hard work over the week paid off as he has been given a South Island trial, which we wish him well for.

FUTSAL:

Senior team has a great tournament with limited preparation they managed to finish 15th out of 34 teams which was a great effort.

SUPER TOUCH:

Super Touch team had some tough games at the South Island Secondary School Champs and finished 7th overall.

MOUNTAIN BIKING:

Alex Wayman had some tough races and managed to be placed 5th which was an outstanding effort as most others had local knowledge of the track. This is Alex first year racing so we look forward to watching him progress over the next few years, as his times were very competitive.

RUGBY:

Under 14 trials will take place on Wednesday, 4 April, players will need to wear a practice jersey, and bring their mouth guard. Second trial will be on Tuesday, April 10 and then a game against Burnside High School on the Saturday, 14 April. Teams are on the Sports Noticeboard.

NUTRITION TALK

Jonny Rea who works with Cricket, Hockey and Rugby is holding a general Nutrition talk on Thursday, 12  April at 5.00pm in the PAC at St Bede's College, all 1st teams are expected to attend but this is also open to anyone else who is interested. Parents are very welcome to attend.

HOCKEY:

Registration Day for ALL Hockey player will be held on Sunday, 8 April from 11.00am to 12.00pm. You are encouraged to pay fees on the day or a deposit is required before you trial. An information sheet, outlining dates for trial, tournament dates and exchanges, will be available on the day.

“Have a GO Hockey Day” - Open day is being held on Thursday, 5 April and all players who intend to play hockey must attend.

POLO:

POLO Players wanted - if you are keen to try out Polo on horse back,  Blue Springs is offering an hour lesson and costs $40.00, you do not need your own horses or gear as it is all supplied. If your son is interested please email Mrs Kissick.

We have two students doing very well in Polo and your son could join Ashton Fitzgerald and Harry Marshall-Lee in playing the sport.

WEDNESDAY SPORT:

Winter Wednesday Sport registrations are available from the sports office, sports are Basketball (Friday night or Wednesday afterschool), Badminton, Squash, Table Tennis, Indoor Cricket and Small Bore Shooting which is done at the Rangiora Rifle Range at the Main Power Oval.

BASKETBALL:

Ethel and Bethel Bingo tickets are available now from the school office. This will be held on Saturday, 5 May at St Bede's College – tickets are only $20.00 which includes bingo cards and pizza. Get your friends together as you will be in for a fun night.
