Men of Bede performed in historic cottage

Callum Wilson —

On our recent Year 13 History trip to Otago, Head Prefect Simon Curnow played Men of Bede on an ancient pedal organ located inside the tiny cottage Mary McKillop used as the base to set up the Arrowtown convent for the Sisters of St Joseph of the Sacred Heart in 1897! This cottage (built as a miner's cottage in 1870) sits beside St Patrick’s Church, which was built in 1873.

The Arrowtown Museum director, of 31 years, proclaimed it was the best playing on that organ he had witnessed in his time.
