Old boys taking on the rugby world
Three old boys' recently took part in the World Rugby Under 20 Championship in South Africa.
Earlier this month, Isaac Hutchinson (2017-2021) and Ben O'Donovan (2018-2022), and manager Stu Hunter (1991-1993), were part of the Baby Blacks squad competing at the World Rugby Under 20 Championship in South Africa.
The New Zealand Under 20’s achieved their highest finish at the event since 2017, overpowering Ireland 38-24 in the playoff for third.
Earlier in the competition, Isaac played fullback and Ben was a reserve during the team's sensational 26-27 win over three time defending champions France. New Zealand staged a gutsy, come from behind, triumph after trailing 11-0 at halftime and losing a player to a yellow card with 3 minutes to go! Sadly, they were unable to repeat this incredible effort in the semi-finals, when they were knocked out of the competition by France, 55-31.
Congratulations to Isaac, Ben, and Stu, and an extra special congratulations to Isaac who has also been named as a debutant in the 2024 Canterbury Rugby NPC Squad. Isaac joins fellow old boys Billy Harmon (2008-2012) and Dominic Gardiner (2015-2019) in the side.
