Mr Justin Boyle —

Greetings from St Bede’s College.

As with all of us, we are living day-to-day. Along with the rest of the country, our school community is working stringently to mitigate as much as possible to lessen the impact of the COVID-19 virus on our students' education. We have already sent out communication to you, detailing the many co-curricular activities we have had to postpone, some of those directed by outside authorities, some of those by ourselves. In a nutshell, our focus is the core business, making sure as much as we can, that students learning is not compromised.

In an effort to deter the boys disappointment at the lack of co-curricular activities and competitions allowed at this time, we are organising lunchtime events and activities to keep their spirits up!

One of these events was KINDness Week, initiated by Marian College to mark the memorial of the Mosque attacks, where the boys were challenged to complete five small acts of kindness during the week. Some photos and information regarding our KINDness Week is detailed further in one of the newsletter articles.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank you all for your understanding and patience in these trying times. We appreciate that we have your support as you work with us to keep our school community safe and I acknowledge the unrest that this is causing. On that note I thought it timely to end with a prayer which follows:

Prayer for a Pandemic
Cameron Wiggins Bellm
May we who are merely inconvenienced,
remember those whose lives are at stake.
May we who have no risk factors
remember those most vulnerable.
May those who have the luxury of working from home
remember those who must choose
between preserving their health or making their rent.
May those who have the flexibility
to care for our children when schools close
remember those who have no options.
May we who have to cancel trips
remember those who have no safe place to go.
May we who are losing our margin money
in the tumult of the economic market
remember those who have no margin at all.
May those who settle for quarantine at home
remember those who have no home.
As fear grips our country,
let us choose love during this time
when we cannot physically wrap our arms around each other,
let us find ways to be the loving embrace to God and our neighbour.
Amen.

Until next week,

J.G. Boyle
