Chrissie Walker —

eBooks are here – just in time for the Christmas holidays!

Hello, all… exciting news! eBooks are now available at the school library, which is perfect timing, given the school holidays are fast approaching. These have a number of advantages and benefits:

  • Read anywhere, anytime, and choose books from a collection of 1800 modern titles and 1500 classics. We have joined a NZ schools consortium, which offers a great selection.
  • Have the book read to you by using the Text to Speech function. You can select any language, as well as text and grammar options. This is a great feature for students who find reading more of a challenge, as they can follow along with the book as it is read out.
  • Books are available with dyslexia friendly settings, which can be accessed from the display settings. Change fonts, colour and size to suit.
  • Using eBooks is easy! Simply download the Wheelers eplatform app from your app store, find our library (St Bede’s College) then log in using your user name (first name, then last name with no spaces eg: johnsmith) and password (Library1). You can change your password as soon as you login. All current St Bede’s students have been set up with a username. Once you have logged in, browse to find a book and borrow it. Please note books return automatically after two weeks, but you can borrow again straight away. You can borrow two items at a time.

If you have any questions about how this works or need help getting set up, please come and see Chrissie in the library before school ends. This really is a great resource to have access to, especially with such a long school break approaching. Don’t forget you can also take out our physical books over the holidays! We have a great collection of really engaging reads and you can borrow up to five items. Continuing to read to avoid the ‘summer slide’ is so important, so make the time to call in and grab a few books. Happy reading!
