The Wiz and a Fundraising concert for Oliver Davidson

The Wiz comes to St. Bede’s

Congratulations to all those involved in this year’s musical, The Wiz, which is currently running to a near sell-out crowd. Based on the classic story, the musical is full of larger-than-life characters and shows the depth of talent within both schools. Musically, there are some very strong performances including Norbert Muller as Wiz and Olivia Altenburg-Carey as Dorothy. Connor Kitto as Lion and Teresa Rodger as Evillene often steal the scenes they are in, assisted by the terrific “look” of all the characters onstage, the work of Ms Sarah Parder. Excellent choreography (and a lot of it!) is testament to the hours of work put in by Ms Katie Barlow and the students. The sound and lighting are designed to make the most of the venue including the innovative idea of having the live four-piece band playing in another room and connected by screen to the auditorium. Congratulations too to the director, old boy Angus Simmons and musical director Connor Matthews.

Fundraising concert for Oliver Davidson

Next Thursday, music and dance will again fill the PAC with a fundraising concert for Oliver Davidson (Year 13 last year) who is off to compete in the World Championship of Performing Arts in California, USA in a couple of weeks. Oliver will be joined by current and former students of both Marian and St. Bede’s Colleges in a colourful evening’s entertainment, all proceeds of which will assist him in reaching the competition. A donation of $10 at the door is suggested.
