SBC —

Tēnā koutou

On Monday this week we held a special assembly to honour and recognise the wonderful achievements of the Rowing team at the Maadi Cup Regatta. The Maadi Cup itself is arguably the most prestigious trophy in Secondary School Sport in New Zealand, and to win this for only the second time in our history was a special moment. Not only did we manage to win it, we did so in a course and Maadi Cup record and in what some have called a race for the ages by holding off the fast finishing Hamilton Boys by a mere 0.06 seconds.

Being at Lake Karapiro it was evident to me that the strength of our team was our team. The team also won the Springbok Shield (four) for the first time in history, as well as the Pair and 5 other medals resulting in St Bede’s being the top boys rowing school in the country. To top it off, we won with humility and grace and the boys were great ambassadors for the College the entire week.

This past week a number of our sports and cultural teams performed exceptionally at various South Island and National tournaments with the busy week being topped off with a most enjoyable Variety Concert last night. You can see detailed results further in the newsletter.

A reminder our Open Day is Tuesday May 2, please spread the word amongst those you know who have an interest in attending our College.

It was appropriate that we concluded the term with a full school gathering for the Stations of the Cross. I leave you with the words of prayer that the college community prayed together:

‘We adore you O Christ, and we bless you because by your holy cross you have redeemed the world’.

I wish you all a holy and happy Easter.

Ngā mihi nui kia koutou katoa
