Kelvin Fisher —

The 2022 club basketball competition got underway last week with a record number of St Bede’s sides taking the court.

Unavailability due to various factors impacted numbers across some teams however all players relished the opportunity to get on the court.

Results:

U20 vs St Andrew's Blue W 85-72

U17 Red vs Christ's College W by default

U17 Black vs Hillmorton Gators L 99-97

U15 Red vs Nth Canterbury Maroon W 115-48

U15 Black vs Lions D 52-52

U15 White vs Nth Canterbury White W 86-28

U15 Bedeans vs Gators Green L 36-61

U15 Rangers vs Selwyn Hawks B L 51-108

U15 Marist vs Selwyn Hawks Blue L 77-86

Unfortunately we have had to make the difficult decision to reduce our U15 teams due to various factors including player withdrawal.

The Redwood team will no longer exist and this has necessitated some changes across the White, Rangers, Bedeans & Marist teams.

Updated team lists attached for your reference. Each team has or will have a team chat so any new players will be added to this.

We rely heavily on our volunteer base and we welcome back those returning coaches and managers whilst also extending a huge thank you to those who are joining our ranks this year. Your contribution is immensely valued and important in the success of the club.

The draw for the Canterbury School competition, the Thomson Trophy is out for the opening weeks and our side will once again compete in Division 1. The opening round see the side start with a home game against Christ's College next Tuesday. Get along for a 7.20pm tip off and support the team. Enter your name as you arrive for a chance to win $100 for sinking a half court shot.

During the recent school holidays, St Bede’s players featured strongly in the Mainland representative qualifying tournament across U15, U17 & U19 age groups.

Harry Cournane & Charlie Hatton were of the North Canterbury U15 A side which qualified for Nationals to be held later in the year while Daniel Leen, Lee Simpson & Finn Pearson played for the North Canterbury U15B which competed well but unfortunately missed a spot for nationals.

In the U17 grade, North Canterbury, featuring Troy Cutbush & Thomas Martin, qualified for Nationals by virtue of an overtime, over Cooper Siave’s Canterbury team.

James Leen & Hunter Cutbush played for North Canterbury in the U19 tournament which featured several National League players in a very strong competition.

Lock this in your calendars...

Next Monday 9 May we hold our 2022 Annual General Meeting in the College Staffroom at 6pm.

Would be great to see plenty of you there and some new faces from our growing numbers.

Don't worry, you won't get landed with any of the major jobs as our officers are standing for re-election. There would certainly be a place for you on our committee as we seek to make our good little club GREAT!!
