Rugby, hunting or horror, there's something for all

Chrissie Walker —

Hello and welcome to 2024 from the library! I hope the school holiday period was filled with great reads for you. Since it’s the start of a new year and there are a lot of new faces around, I thought it was a good time to go over what the Library of St Bede has to offer…

  • We have a strong collection filled with a wide range of fiction, high-interest non-fiction and biographies tailored to the interests of boys. These range from all levels – easy, quick reads to chunky books you can really get your teeth into. Our fiction collection features a good number of action, adventure, mystery, war and fantasy/dystopian books, as well as humour, horror and sports fiction. The most popular books in our non-fiction collection are rugby, basketball and hunting books, but there is something for everyone. We also have a magazine and graphic novel/manga collection. Suggestions are always welcome! Students can take out five books at a time, and new books are constantly being added to the collection.
  • We have a number of reading lists on a range of subjects and genres, so for those struggling to know where to start or what to move onto, these are available for collection and contain many suggestions. Also, I’m always very happy to recommend books and provide options, so feel free to get in touch with me at any time!
  • We have a book club which meets twice a term to discuss recent reads. New members are very welcome, and it’s a great chance to connect with other readers and get suggestions.
  • We have a collection of board games as well as multiple chess sets – students are very welcome to come and play these at lunchtimes and breaks.

Happy reading, all!
