Podium Finish at Maadi 2021

Kerry Sullivan —

The result for the U18 Novice Coxed 8 was: Hamilton Boys 1st, St Bede’s College 2nd and Auckland Grammar 3rd.

Maadi 2020 was a casualty to last year’s lockdown. Gauging the crew's performance based on racing against South Island Schools and the times that were posted over the last two seasons, led us to believe we would be competitive up North, but having not faced many of the North Island crews before, uncertainty remained. Our first few races confirmed however, we were in the running to make Finals.

After four days of heats and repechages not a single member of our crew, does not still have races to compete in, with just the Novice Double knocked out in the heats. This is a remarkable feat, with many crews and other schools not having progressed to this stage of the competition.

With the first lot of finals being raced on Friday, our results have included:

C Final, U17 Single Sculls, Gus Guzman, 6th

B Final, U18 Double, James Walsh, Liam Wagteveld, 7th

C Final, U16 Coxed Quad Sculls, Sam Woodgate, Jack Dennehy-Coles, Neil Kamat, Sam Earl + Ollie Ellenbroek, 5th

C Final, U16 Coxed Quad Sculls, Josh Hamer, Matthew Glen, Thomas Woodgate, Luke Hickling + Max Walsh, 4th

A Final, U18 Novice Coxed 8, Sam Earl, Sean Millar, Finn Brook, Layton Carr, Archie Christian, Ollie Monks, Harrison Staples, Ngakau Nixon + Ollie Ellenbroek, 2nd
