SPORT OVERVIEW

With all summer sports cancelled, there is uncertain times coming and with a directive from School Sport NZ we should be guided by our National Sporting Bodies (NSO) – this could change and we will endeavour to keep you updated.

ROWING

Congratulations to the all the rowers who came back from the South Island Secondary Champs with three gold medals and a bronze medal.

This looked promising for Maadi Cup, but unfortunately that is now cancelled.

BASKETBALL

St Bede’s Basketball Club were holding a 3 x 3 (there are only 3 players in each team) tournament on Saturday 4 April at the St Bede’s gym. This has been cancelled

HOCKEY

HAVE-A-GO DAY for Hockey has been cancelled at present.

AFL

Congratulations to the following St Bede’s College boys that featured in the AFL national teams

Level One

At present their AFL tournaments have been postponed but hopefully they may still get to play later during the year.

SURF LIFESAVING

Congratulations to Jem Lilburne, Lee Collins and Will Jamieson who have won medals at the NZ Surf Life Saving Nationals held at Mt Manganui.

Jem and Lee won a gold medal in the Canoe U18 long course and a silver medal in the short course.

Will won gold in the U19 Ski, bronze in the U16 Ski and Taplin.

Well done boys.

SURFING

Congratulations to the three surfers from St Bede’s College that took part in the Duke Festival of Surfing last weekend. The Duke is the largest school-age surfing contest in the South Island which attracts 200 top surfers.

James Miller was first in the U16 boys. James was also fourth in the U18 boys.

Jack Tyro was placed second in the U14 boys and fourth in the U16 boys.

Tom Robertson was placed third in the U14 boys.

Overall standing in the NZ Surfing Circuit Championships are James in sixth place in the U16 boys, Jack is in second place in U14 boys.

In the South Island Grom Series, (five contests held in Dunedin, Westport, Greymouth, Christchurch and Kaikoura) with one round to go, Tom is in striking distance of a top five finish, James is in a position to take out the winner of the U16 boys, and Jack will also take out the U14 boys.

Well done to the three boys who have had outstanding results.
