Water Polo Tournament

Kylie Rochford —

On the weekend of the 27 and 28 November the Year 9/10 Water Polo teams played in a Christchurch Schools' Tournament. This was in replacement of the South Island Champs that had to be cancelled.

The B team (who play B grade in the weekly Year 9/10 competition) were up against some stiff competition over the weekend. The positives for the team were the “never give up attitude”, the improvement and experience for all players. Coaches Jared Talanoa and Deagan Agnew look forward to these players returning to Water Polo in Term One. Thank you to Katrina Talanoa for managing this team.

The A team went through unbeaten to make semis against St Andrew’s College. The boys worked hard in the 2nd half of the game to come away with a 9-5 win.

The final was against Christchurch Boys' High School. At full time the game was a draw 6-6. This meant a penalty shootout with St Bede’s taking the win 10-9. Coaches Caleb Stewart and Sam Rochford were pleased with all the players' performance over the 2 days and we were rapt to get in the final and win. Thank you to Annie Gavigan for managing this team.

Well done to both teams.

Water Polo continues to grow at St Bede’s and we are looking forward to the Term One programme and games.
