2019 Student Rugby Coaches

Mr. Mark Ealey —

Senior school boys "putting in"

In 2019 a good number of senior boys will be serving as assistant coaches with the U16Bs, and U14 teams. It's great to see boys wanting to help their juniors get the most out their experience at St. Bede's.

Student Coaches Comments:

Adam Morganty:

I think the best thing about rugby is the fitness you develop and the friendships you grow while you play.

Creating friendships and bonds and especially coming to a new school in Year 9 was my favourite year to play it was so chill and I really got to know my team who are still my friends to this day and i guess if I’m a coach this year I would what the boys to experience the same thing and have fun and get fit and be a part of the team.

Sam Anderson:

To me the best thing about rugby is the friendships made and the memories that have come with playing alongside some of my best mates. Playing and fighting for and alongside your brothers against the top schools in Christchurch holds possibly some of my best schoolboy memories. As much as winning is good I feel defeat plays a massive part in why rugby is so important to me. I have learnt to dig deep and never give in and this creates a very special bond with team mates who are their right beside you and will never give in. Pride in the St Bedes jersey is so important to me especially having 3 older brothers played for the college and seeing how proud and successful they have been.

I want to assist the boys on creating/ meeting long lasting friends and a sense of belonging. I want the younger boys to see how special and lucky it is that we get to wear the Bedean crest on our chest alongside our peers while playing the game we love. I always want to create friendships with the boys that will last a long time. I’ve seen many past student coaches create some special friendships from coaches the younger boys. I want to be a good example for the younger and this will allow them to follow the tradition of student coaching when the reach their senior years.

Jacob Moylan:

My name is Jacob Moylan and I am a year 13 student. To me the best thing about rugby is the team spirit and bonding that occurs between the boys playing, especially here at St. Bede’s. I hope the boys end up getting a rewarding experience and make some great friends this year playing rugby and that they enjoy the great culture it can create.

Sam Sparrow:

To me the best thing about rugby is the mates you meet and the sense of achievement you earn, I want to help give the younger boys an experience that rugby can produce in all areas, but most importantly what it is to play for St. Bede’s and the brotherhood you’ll cherish as a result.

Sam Back:

The best thing about rugby to me is the sense of brotherhood you achieve with your teammates. I just want the young boys to have an enjoyable year of rugby.

Dylan Cannan: I hope that the boys I coach this year can gain extra enjoyment for the game and make lots for friendships that will carry on even off the field and develop their overall skill for the game.

Daniel Aguinot: There are plenty of things to like about our wonderful game, but if I were to choose one thing it would be the brotherhood you build with your teammates. Through the rugby grades I have been blessed with some outstanding teammates and some top quality guys. Together you train hard and play against top level competition from other schools. Especially playing as a school boy, the game brings boys closer in and out of the classroom. Brotherhood is very unique at St Bede’s College rugby. One thing I want my boys to experience is to be a part of a team where everyone feels they belong and can contribute. My fellow student coaches and I will try to create a healthy rugby culture within our teams, which will hopefully result in a successful year.
