4 June: 1st XV vs Roncalli Aoraki Combined Schools won 58-13

Mark Ealey —

Round 5

Although Roncalli or Roncalli Combined have never beaten St Bede’s, our team was very aware that this team would stand up and demand attention. Although we scored 2 early tries, Roncalli fought back to hold us to a tight 20 to 8 score at half time.

The second half saw us become more dominant, scoring 5 tries to 1.

After a series of close matches, the team was pleased to finally score a bonus point. These can become important at the pointy end of the season. Mitch Pile and Taniela Talanoa both played for their first caps in this game. We now have a bye week before playing St Peter’s (Auckland) at 2.45pm on Tuesday 14 June.

Under the 1st XV MVP system, Ben Trillo scored 1 point (he scored 20 during the game). Riley Lucas in his best game to date scored 2 points and Jamayne Feast pulled off some miraculous moves to score 3 points.

In the Origin Award system, Mr Davidson chose Josh Borcoskie for his incredible work rate and reliability. Sars Flood chose Jamayne Feast for his mercurial play and Mr Litten chose Mitch Pile for an impressive overall contribution in his first game for the 1st XV
