JazzQuest and success for the Bede Durkin-Gorman and Jean-Luc Pitcaithly

JazzQuest this weekend

We wish the Jazz group all the best for JazzQuest this Sunday at 11.30am.

The group has been preparing all year for this event in which they present a 20-minute bracket of music before an audience at the ARA Jazz school in Madras Street. They have branched out this year to include funky numbers in their repertoire and consequently, have invited Year 12 singer Norbert Muller to join them. Interestingly, the awards ceremony will be run via Facebook this year, as follows:

Here’s is the facebook event:

This year there will not be a physical awards ceremony on the Sunday afternoon. Instead, there will be a ceremony on Facebook live at 4.30pm on Sunday afternoon.

Success for orchestral players

Congratulations to Bede Durkin-Gorman (Year 12) and Jean-Luc Pitcaithly (Year 11) who successfully auditioned for the Canterbury Schools Regional Orchestra. The new initiative involves students from numerous schools meeting every Friday at Villa Maria College to practice, culminating in a concert on Wednesday, 20 September. Congratulations also to Jean-Luc who is in the National Secondary Schools’ Brass Band for the second year in a row where he has been promoted to the 1st Trumpets.
