New tuck shop hits the spot

Tracey Ruddenklau —

In Term 2, the college dining hall team took over the running of the tuck shop. We take a look at how the new menu has been received.

Large numbers of students can be seen milling around outside the school tuck shop at break times, drawn by the smell of freshly made scones, pies and bacon butties.

Since the dining hall team took over the operation of the tuck shop, the college's Hospitality Manager said there has been a large increase in the number of students using the canteen, with the new offerings proving popular.

The tuck shop now stocks a wide range of food, with offerings such as garlic bread, winter soups, and the daily boarders' hot lunch option, which includes fresh pastas, curries, casseroles, and rice bowls.

A tuck shop spokesperson said fresh sushi is always a sell-out, with bacon rolls, pies, and the boarders' lunch among the most popular items. Muffins and cheese scones, which are baked fresh each morning, have also become a favourite among staff.

Feedback from students has been overwhelmingly very positive and the changes have created a real buzz at lunchtime.

Students surveyed said, on average, they visited the tuck shop twice a week. Seth Matheson, Year 13, said his favourite new item was the pulled pork bun. Hot pies and new drink options have also been a hit.

The tuck shop is cashless, with contactless payments only. This helps reduce wait times during the busy lunch periods.
