Over the weekend the Bishop Lyons Competition was won by Marian College. Details below.

Bishop Lyons Speech Competition

Last weekend the Bishop Lyons team competed for the Bishop Lyons Shield at Villa Maria College. This is an annual competition which sees the seven Catholic High Schools of the Christchurch Diocese compete in six different speech disciplines. The 2018 team was –

  • Impromptu Speech – Luke Challies
  • Debating – Cian Hallisey, Nickol Crews, George de Marco
  • Junior Prepared Speech – Seamus Lohrey
  • Senior Prepared Speech – Robert Methven
  • Scripture Reading – Jonty Challies-Gibb
  • Religious Questions – Alan Alex, Matteo Brennan, Nick O’Neill (Luke Robb and Ethan Evans were involved in the research and planning too)

Congratulations to Marian College, eventually winning the shield with our team placed second.

 A special congratulations to Seamus Lohrey who was placed first equal in Junior Prepared Speech. Seamus won this event last year too ; to Jonty Challies-Gibb who finished first equal in the inaugural Scripture Reading in Maori and to the Religious Questions team who were very impressive in winning the Religious Questions.

Thank you to the staff who put hours of preparation into coaching these students and to Villa Maria for hosting us so superbly..
