Audio Production at St Bede's

Ashleigh Mowbray —

A look at the new Junior Music Course tackling DJ decks and electronic music production!

For the first time this year, Year 10 students at St Bede’s College have been offered the opportunity to take a new Music course - Audio Production (10MUS2) - taught by Mr Hardinge.

This new course differs from the more traditional music class in that it focusses on electronic music production and the use of technology to create music. Students learn the basics of music production through looping, DJ mixing and recording all with the goal of creating beats for the likes of video games and movie trailers.

Over the past few weeks the first classes to take this new course have been learning to work with DJ Decks and Audio Interfaces.

Those working with the DJ Decks are working toward a tag team style group performance. Each student will play a song, gradually adding effects to the mix until eventually it transitions to the next song where the next student will take over.

Students working with the Audio Interfaces are learning a song in a band setting and recording each instrument individually. They are then mixing their recordings using Studio One to create a finished song!

Later this year, Year 9 students who have chosen this Arts course (9MUS2) will get the opportunity to try their hand at this technology under the direction of Mr Hardinge and Mrs King.

It is incredibly exciting to see these classes tackling new and emerging forms of music production here at St Bede’s. Watch this space as we look forward to being able to share some of the final products with you later in the year!
