From the Rector
We all woke this morning to the news of the passing of Queen Elizabeth II and this was acknowledged in a number of ways around the school today, starting with a prayer at staff briefing.
Earlier this week, the Prefects led an assembly which, for the first half had a focus on faith. They showed a clip from a programme called Alpha and this had a focus on prayer. They then led the school in a meditative style of prayer which was impressive in that all the school responded respectively and with reverence. It showed once again the power of a message delivered by senior students in the blazer, rather than adults in a suit!
We have supported the CanTeen organisation for well over 20 years and today we continued that support with the Head Shave, "Shave for a Cure". Our relationship with the organisation began in 2002, when the College was challenged by the Chaplain of the time, Fr Walls, to participate in an activity that lived out our motto – Fide et Opere, or paraphrased – show your faith by what you do! One way he did this was by supporting a group of young people less fortunate, when we began our association with CanTeen. We will have the follow up article for you in a couple of weeks, when we have added the donations.
Brian Cumming’s Month's Mind Mass will be held in the Chapel at 7pm on Tuesday 20 September. The mass will be celebrated by the Provincial of the Society of Mary Fr Tim Duckworth.
Until next week.
