Jon McDowall —

Kia ora koutou

Our thoughts and prayers are with those affected by Cyclone Gabrielle. It certainly is a challenging time and I encourage you where possible to support these communities through the various charitable options.

Today we celebrated our Opening Mass. This is a special time as we come together as a faith community to share in the Eucharist and our commitment to our faith and our school. It was a pleasure to have Fr Tim Duckworth and Fr Mark Walls preside over Mass, including the blessing myself and our senior leaders for our respective roles in the College.

Our Prefects, led by our Head Boy Christian Ioane and supported by all of our Year 13s play a key role in maintaining a positive and inclusive school culture. Next weeks assembly will be led by these students with a particular focus on what it means to be a Bedean from their perspective.

I would like to congratulate Nick Murphy and Jayden Potts on their respective achievements. Nick captained and played in New Zealand Under 17 Football side that won the Oceania Football Confederation tournament in Fiji, with the team qualifying for the U17 World Cup in Peru to be played later this year. Jayden, whilst only, 15 has been selected in the New Zealand Under 19 Softball team which is due to compete at the World Softball championships in South America later in the year. Well done to you both. Please do let us know of your son’s achievements so we can recognise them in appropriate forums.

Ngā mihi nui
