Greetings from St Bede's

Mr Justin Boyle —

The annual musical ran this week with our students combining with Marian College in the production “The Wiz”. Directed by old boy, Angus Simmons, assisted by Connor Matthews and choreographer Ms Barlow, the show runs for four nights this week to packed audiences. Senior students who featured included Norbert Muller (Wiz), Connor Kitto (Lion), Selwyn Gamble (Lord High Underling), and Ollie Flett (Scarecrow).

25 songs were performed and for an amateur cast, it was a most professional performance.

It has been a very busy term for our Arts Faculty with the Smokefree Stage Challenge earlier, which involved 40-50 boys, some of whom were in the musical as well. I am most appreciative of our talented staff who gave so generously for the boys to get these opportunities.

We hosted the annual exchange with St Patrick’s, Silverstream this week. Results follow.

We won the battle of the words in the debating chamber, but succumbed on the football and rugby fields. This is an exchange that dates back on and off to 1930 when St Patrick’s, a fellow Society of Mary College, began.

Over the past several weeks, students from Year 10 Economics have been planning and readying products to sell, and today during lunch time, the inaugural St Bede’s Market Day was held. Half of all profits made will now be given to the CanTeen charity.

Until next week

Justin Boyle
