Food Technology

Mrs Brenda Bickerstaff —

The Food Tech department has been in full swing this term with all boys learning new skills and producing quality end products. There is always lots of fun when food is involved!

Here is a snapshot of what some of the year levels have been up too.

Year 9’s – getting to know the kitchen and learning the basic’s in cookery. A popular dish across is souvlaki, which didn’t disappoint these two.

Year 10’s – have been focusing on the science of food. Here the boys are investigated what the functional properties of egg whites are and how they can be manipulated to make wonderful meringues (with a splash of blue colouring thrown is as well)

Year 11’s – Lots of great skills being learnt, including making fruit tarts by baking blind their pastry and producing a lump free, silky custard. Some even became “movie stars” for the International Department promotion.
