Former Esol Rugby students visit St Bede's

Robert Tappenden —

Two current Sunwolves members dropped in to see their old school during the first week of the holidays.

Shunsuke Nunomaki, a former 1st XV , Japan and now Sunwolves Super Rugby player, and Makoto Yazaki, now an assistant manager for the Sunwolves, dropped by the College, when the Sunwolves were based in Christchurch.  They walked around the College, taking in the changes and relating stories from their time here.

Shunsuke was here in 2010 and Makoto in 2012.

When they entered the dining room they both said that he smell was still the same as they remembered!

Shunsuke has had a successful career in professional rugby in Japan, and took the field against the Crusaders as a flanker.  Makoto left St Bede's with a rugby scholarship to a university in Japan, but had to cease playing because of concussion. He has pursued his academic studies in sports medicine and took on the role of assistant manager this year with the Sunwolves.

Shunsuke remarked, while standing on Number 1 that this was where his rugby career really began.
