St Bede’s College Cross Country Championships

John Gamblin —

The College Cross Country Championships were held on Tuesday afternoon on the usual 2.6km two lap course on the back field.

The conditions were hard and fast which assisted Ethan Smolej (Y13) to break the College record for the course with an outstanding time of 7 minutes 52 seconds. Ethan jointly held the old record of 7.59, which he set in set in Y11, with Tom Moulai who set the Y13 record back in 2016.

Sam Doherty 8:24 and Josh Cowan 8:57 were the only other athletes to break the meritorious nine-minute barrier this year. Top ten results follow lower in this article, please see PDF attached.

Next up is the Canterbury Road Race Championships on the second Tuesday of next term in Hagley park, followed by the Canterbury Cross Country Championships at QE2 on Thursday June 3rd with the New Zealand Cross Country Championships in Hawera on the 19th and 20th of June completing the events over the winter.

Those selected to compete at Canterbury Road Champs will get an email within the next week. If you don’t and want to go, contact Mr Gamblin on jgamblin@stbedes.school.nz asap please.
