Greetings from St Bede's

Justin Boyle —

It was a cold week but it has been good to see some sun and some drying out of the fields for the winter sport programmes to continue. For the moment, the numbers who are sick have not reached the same levels as they did in the second term, which is encouraging . We received news this week from NZQA, that students will be entitled to receive some recognition credits in light of the disruptions caused by the pandemic. These will be detailed later in the newsletter.

Unfortunately I had to accept the resignation of our Sports Director, Richard Pithey, who will take up a position at Canterbury cricket towards the end of the term. We thank him for the work he has done over the last couple of years. In challenging circumstances, he did his absolute utmost to keep providing sporting opportunities for the 80% of our boys who play sport for the College. We are working through the process to appoint a replacement, appreciating the fact that more resource is needed in this area of the school.

The seniors students ran assembly this week and featured our long standing relationship with CanTeen, you canread about this in the article in this newsletter.

I want to acknowledge the hard work of the PTA in staging their annual race night tonight. It attracts many from our wider parent community and I look forward to joining the ‘punters’ tonight. Another event tomorrow night, is the Old Boys' dinner, the first for over 8 years. The Community Office along with the Old Boys Association have worked hard to pull this night together, at which two awards will be presented, for Old Boys achievements in the sporting and cultural spheres.

Until next week
