Scholarship worth $21000

James Gammack Trust Scholarships

Each year the trust awards four scholarships to students who intend to study at Lincoln University or the University of Canterbury. Each scholarship is worth $21,000 ($7,000 for each of the first three years the student is at university).

Criteria

Applicants must:

• be New Zealand citizens or permanent residents.

• be living in Canterbury.

• have demonstrated the academic ability to succeed in tertiary study. For example, have achieved NCEA Level 2 and have continued academic success in the year of application.

• have shown positive personal characteristics such as honesty and integrity, taking responsibility for themselves and showing respect for others.

Preference will be given to applicants who have challenging personal circumstances. These could include, but are not limited to:

• financial hardship

• mental health such as an anxiety or mood disorder

• having a recognised disability or learning difficulty

• identifying as part of the Rainbow community

• being the first in their family to attend university. ('Family' includes siblings and parents.)

Application Process

Applications close on August 31. To apply, students need to:

• Complete the online application form

• Provide the names of two people who will provide confidential references.

Selection Process

Based on the applications and references, the selection panel will interview about 8 to 10 applicants to help decide who to award the scholarships to. These interviews take place on the first Monday of the October school holidays, October 3.

Experience Waikato

2 and 3 August

Waikato University will be hosting an Experience Waikato event for students from our South Island schools. This opportunity will allow the students to experience everything that we have to offer on campus, meet key academic staff and participate in some exciting interactive activities.

The event will take place on the 2nd and 3rd of August at the Hamilton and Tauranga campus’. All flights will leave from Christchurch on the morning of the 2nd and return back from Tauranga on the 3rd.

These flights will be paid for by the University of Waikato and we will also provide accomodation and food whilst they are here with us!

Careers in Heritage 2022

Are you passionate about your culture and heritage? Does the idea of sharing the stories and treasures of your ancestors inspire you? A role in the heritage sector may be right for you, and there are opportunities to launch a career in arts and heritage right here in Ōtautahi.

This FREE event for senior high school and university students will introduce you to the many and varied careers in arts and heritage. This year Careers in Heritage will focus on roles working with heritage in the landscape, such as architectural historians, archaeologists, archivists, conservators, heritage educators, and heritage engineers. Guest speakers from across the sector will share what's great about their jobs, and let you know what skills or qualifications you would need to do the same work.

A light morning tea will be served, and there will be opportunities to mingle with the speakers and ask questions.

WHERE: TSB Space, Level 1, Tūranga, CCC Central Library

This event is a partnership between the University of Canterbury Teece Museum and the Christchurch City Council Heritage Team, run with the assistance of Christchurch City Libraries.
