Changes to COVID-19 Protection Framework and our School

Jon McDowall —

COVID-19 Protection Framework, My Vaccine Pass and vaccination mandates

  • New Zealand remains at Red. However, Cabinet will review the framework colour level on Monday 4 April. We will communicate any subsequent changes as they come to our attention.
  • The removal of vaccination mandates for education workers will take effect from 11.59pm Monday 4 April. This includes volunteers.

  • On the same date, removal of the My Vaccine Pass from the COVID-19 Protection Framework (traffic light system).
  • There is no requirement to display QR code posters (although we will continue to make these available) or have other processes, other than our regular sign in and out processes, to support visitors to our college to check-in. This system may need to return if case numbers rise

Red

  • There is no change to masks in education settings from the existing Red setting. Medical-grade masks remain a requirement for staff working indoors with students.
  • For all New Zealanders, including school settings, masks will not be required outdoors.
  • Capacity limits will be removed for outdoor events and activities.
  • Indoor capacity limits for extra-curricular activities increase to 200 people, or a maximum capacity based on the maximum number of people who could occupy the space if each person was one metre apart (whichever is lower).

Key Updates and Info in relation to our College Practices

  • Contact Tracing – As it is no longer a requirement to identify close contacts and public health measures such as mask wearing, and ventilation remain in place we no longer need to have students in a seating plan unless staff you choose to do so.
  • Student Vaccine Status - Recently it was announced that all students should be able to access co-curricular activities regardless of their vaccine status. This covers sports, culture, service and other school related events.
  • Parents on site – Parents and whanau are, as they always have been, able to come onto school grounds regardless of their vaccine status for education purposes. Parents and whānau are required to wear masks at all times when indoors onsite
  • Evening meetings – these are able to continue within the Gatherings guidelines. This means we can hold indoor events, hireage and parent meetings with a capacity of 200 indoors (where spacing allows).
  • Conference Days – At this stage we plan to continue with Conference Days for all students on the Monday and Tuesday of week one in Term 2. We will provide further guidance including health safety measures that will be in place in due course.
  • Visitors/spectators for outdoor events– as gathering rules are being lifted outdoors, it is safe to have spectators on our grounds. Until the My Vaccine Pass is lifted on April 4, a pragmatic approach will be taken by those running outdoor events with regards to checking My Vaccine Passes.
  • Visitors/spectators for indoor events during school hours – at the Red setting we will still not have assemblies indoors, or Mass for example for over 200 people should they not be able to be spaced 1m apart.
  • Visitors/spectators for indoor events after school hours– events after school hours need to adhere to the gathering limit of 200, presuming spectators can be spaced 1m apart.
