Cross Country

St Bede's were the host school for the Canterbury Schools Cross Country Event on Thursday 3 June held at the Ascot Golf Course, QE 2 Park. The eight race programme attracted 410 entries from Canterbury, the West Coast and the Aorangi region.

Ethan Smolej was outstanding in winning the senior boys 4k event in a time of 14m 12s, with Samuel Doherty running another good race to only be 39 seconds behind in 8th place. Josh Cowan came 25th and Ethan Hansen finished 28th to give the team third placed in the four man teams race.

Bronson Reuben ran a strong race to finish 17th in the Under 16 race over 3k in a time of 12m 31s, with Luca Fleck 22nd and Daniel Parkin 40th.

Isaac Saywell Barbosa fought well to finish 14th in the Y9 3k race in a time of 13m 8s. Jake O’Sullivan 20th, Jaeger Pryce 23rd and Quinn Viney 27th made up the four man team who finished 2nd to Burnside High.

The four senior boys are travelling to Hawera to compete in the New Zealand Cross Country Championships over 6k on Saturday 19 June and the New Zealand Cross Country Relays on Sunday 20 June where they will compete in Canterbury singlets over 5 x 2k laps.

Well done to all the boys who helped with the event, a comment was made by the Regional Sports Director for Canterbury Secondary Schools Sport on how helpful, smart, and well behaved the St Bede's boys were.

Congratulations to Jayden Potts who at the age of 13 has been selected in the U18 Junior Black Sox wider Squad building towards the U18 Junior Men’s World Cup in 2023.
