St Bedes Career Expo Evening 24 August – 4 to 7pm
In the gymnasium

A big welcome to the Careers Expo Evening to be held in the gym on the 24th of August, we have a number of the Universities and Tertiary training providers like ARA, SIT etc, here for both parents and students to speak to about careers in their area of expertise. The Defense Force and the Police are favorites with the boys.

Teachers are available from all facilities to talk to you and your son about subject choices and career pathways.

We hope you make time to come along and meet everyone. It is a really good night.

Make these days count – this is a great opportunity for you to make some thoughtful decisions around your future career, when you leave school. The two days gives you the opportunity to meet with two employers and shadow them for a day, ask questions about the job/career, the training required, the future proofing of the job and where is the best place to get the qualification or on job training to to the job.

As soon as you have confirmed your work place/s, please let your Mana Tane teacher know so they can record your for the day.

A Refrigeration & Air Conditioning Apprenticeship

We have a Refrigeration & Air Conditioning apprenticeship opportunity on offer for 2023 and are on the look out for a suitable candidate to join the team.

Potential candidates will be offered work experience, to allow them to go out into the field with experienced engineers to give them an insight into the trade, to show them what the job is about, test there practical abilities and gauge their interest.

The apprenticeship would start at the end of January 2023 along with the apprenticeship you will be signed up with Competenz for the apprenticeship program.

You need to be a keen young individual, interested in doing an apprenticeship and establishing a career in the trade. Somebody who has a GREAT attitude with genuine natural practical skills, and is keen, motivated and prepared to work hard.

We are able to provide work experience opportunities between now and Christmas of any potential candidates.

School of Tourism

We are excited to announce the Disney Recruiters from Florida are coming back to New Zealand in October to present to and interview our Diploma Students.

We would love to give your students the opportunity to experience the Disney presentation, they will hear all about the roles available, the accommodation offered as well as other benefits and requirements.

This is part of a Two day taster which includes a unit standard. The dates for Christchurch are 27-28 October.

Our programs are offer for NZ$3000. We will restart programs in Vietnam, Argentina and hopefully Fiji in 2023, priced at just US$975 (NZ$1500) for up to 5 months. With increases in flights and insurance, we don’t want our fee to turn people away.

Recent graduates will join us to talk about their career pathways and how their studies at UC led towards their current careers.

We’ll also have employers talk about the skills they find valuable when looking for employees and some of the roles Arts graduates fill in their workplaces.

Online Course Planning Sessions

If you are thinking of coming or have applied to come to the University of Waikato you may have decided what degree programme you're interested in (or have short-listed a couple of programmes).

In which case you may be unsure or have questions about what programmes are available, the admission requirements, majors and minors, the degree structures, and how to apply.

To make it easy for you to students to access information on these things we have organised a series of online sessions through August and September.

The sessions last one hour and are run after school, to ensure they are as accessible as possible for you and your parents/whānau (if they want to join).

During each session, some of the University of Waikato’s staff will talk about the degree programmes - and answer students questions.

We are nearing closing dates for some programmes and the Engagement Team are here to help with your applications.

As Term 3 gets underway students will be thinking about their study options for next year and starting applications for their preferred programmes.

In our last newsletter you would have seen application tips for our health courses, and we will have more of these tips over the next few newsletters covering other subject areas.

We also encourage interested rangatahi to join us at one of our Application Evenings. Bring whānau along, enjoy some snacks and refreshments and get some assistance with your application. These evenings will cover:

  • The Ara application process
  • Fees-free funding, scholarships
  • Verifying ID documents (bring your Birth Certificate, Passport and/or Visa details if applicable)
  • Information about entry criteria (academic and additional requirements)
  • Course closing dates and availability

There will also be the chance to submit your application and chat one-on-one with an Engagement team member. We have a few upcoming dates, so make sure to attend one prior to when applications close for your preferred programme! These sessions are available either in person at our Madras Street campus, or online via Zoom. Register via the links below:

Welcome to Ara's student accommodation, right across the road from our City campus

Just a two minute walk away from our main campus you'll find Ara's student accommodation. There are 36 secure, warm and sunny apartments that can house up to 192 students. Located close by is the city centre with plenty of shopping and food options, the bus exchange with connections to all over the city, and just down the road there is a supermarket and pharmacy.

Applications are open now, and preference is given to those who apply before the 31st of October. Residents must be aged between 18-25.

All apartments have either 5 or 6 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, an open plan dining, kitchen and lounge area and a patio or balcony. Ara's IGNITE Festival brings together the creative projects of NASDA’s graduating students in a celebration of creativity and bravery. This exciting mini festival showcases work created, driven and performed by third year NASDA students. It’s a great opportunity for anyone considering tertiary-level study in musical theatre to experience the talent and accomplishments of students as they conclude their training and prepare to embark on their stage careers.
