Bedean family marks 100 year milestone
Entrance day was an extra special occasion for Year 9 student Lachlan Callaghan and his family.
The first day of high school holds a special place in the hearts of many, a moment in time traditionally marked with shiny shoes, the smell of new stationery, and of course that wonderful mix of excitement and nervousness. For Year 9 student Lachlan Callaghan, this day held an additional layer of significance - 2024 marks a century since his great-grandfather also started at St Bede's.
James 'Brian' Callaghan (1924-1928), Lachlan's great-grandfather, embarked on his St Bede's journey exactly 100 years ago, establishing a family tradition that has now spanned four generations and included 21 descendants. Proudly carrying this legacy, Lachlan becomes the fourth generation of his family to attend St Bede's College, following in the footsteps of his father, Brendan Callaghan (1993-1997), and his grandfather, Mark Callaghan (1968-1972). Brian Callaghan has three other great grandchildren who are currently at St Bede's, James Franken (Year 10), Finn Callaghan (Year 11), and Harry Methven (Year 13).
As we warmly welcome Lachlan and all our Year 9 students to our school community, we also extend our heartfelt congratulations to the Callaghan family for reaching this remarkable 100-year milestone. May the legacy continue to thrive in the years to come!
