International Students go to the Show!

Madeleine Castle —

Wednesday 13th November had the Junior International Students experiencing first hand what it is like to be a Kiwi at the Canterbury Show!

This was quite an experience for the boys and several of them experienced their first Hot Dog on a stick!

The boys were accompanied by George Inwood and Madeleine Castle who were able to explain and teach the boys all about a crush as well as what a cattle stop is. They saw sheep shearing and patted a freshly shorn sheep. The Dog trials were happening and the boys watched the farmer work his dog to guide some pretty stroppy sheep through the course.

After watching some Show Jumping and taking the opportunity to sit down, the group headed to watch the Wood Chopping. The teams race was about to start, giving our boys an opportunity to watch something truly antipodean!

The day out finished with Bacon & Egg Pie, fresh baked muffins and other treats provided by Chef Nigel and Martin.

Undoubtedly this was a new experience for the majority of the boys and may have been a little challenging for some, but all boys behaved commendably, and represented themselves, their countries and St Bede’s very well.
