Greetings from St Bedes

We finish today on Holy Thursday with an Easter Liturgy, performed by our senior drama students, and based upon the stations of the cross. These have been erected around the campus, and RE classes have taken the opportunity regularly during the Lenten period to reflect on Jesus’ last days on Earth over 2000 years ago.

The dramatic liturgy was based upon some of the 14 stations of the cross or the way of the cross. The Stations take us through Christ’s journey from his arrest to his crucifixion and burial in the tomb. The hall was appropriately lit to reflect the somber nature of the event and of the pain and torture received by Jesus as it was played out, highlighting graphically His sacrifice for us all. The medium of the drama made the message even more poignant and powerful.

Summer sports Tournament week ended very well last weekend, with the rowers having their most successful Maadi championship for a number of years. 18 of the squad of 22 gained a gold medal in A grade finals. Once again, our Senior Water Polo team are South Island champions on the back of a tense and close final against St Andrew’s. Futsal and Touch teams also acquitted themselves well in their respective tournaments. Preparation for the winter sports programmes went up a notch this week, and once again the grounds were full of boys from the winter codes preparing for their seasons.

Have a happy and holy Easter
