Sacramental Programme Liturgies

Rachel Pitcaithly —

This week we celebrated two beautiful liturgies to complete the first part of our Sacramental Programme. The boys involved have been attending lunchtime lessons throughout the term as they prepared to receive the Sacraments of Initiation – Baptism, Eucharist and Confirmation.

Our senior students followed a slightly different preparation called ‘Food and Faith’ where they met with staff and both shared their faith journeys.

On Wednesday, 13 September, 23 boys were Baptised in the college Chapel by our parish priest, Mons Rick Loughnan. Preparation for this ran alongside the Year 9 Sacramental Studies programme being taught in Year 9 Religious Education and 16 of those Baptised were Year 9s. They were joined by five Year 10 and two Year 13 students.

The following night, 62 boys received the Sacrament of Confirmation from Bishop Michael Gielen – 39 of these boys also received Holy Communion for the first time. Each of these boys chose the name of a Saint to be taken for their Confirmation name, and what a range there was - from Saints Bruno, Drogo and Columbanus through to the ever-popular St Sebastian, Patron Saint of athletes.
