Creativity, critical thinking, and collaboration
On Friday, 9 May, eight brave Year 11 students travelled to Christ's College to take part in St Bede's College's debut appearance at the Da Vinci Decathlon.
The competition involved students working on problems across from 10 disciplines - from a classic math test to writing poetry, performing a dramatic skit, and constructing a piece of engineering to solve a problem.
The beauty of the challenge is that it pushes every participant out of their comfort zone and engages their critical thinking in areas they may not otherwise put their hands up for.
At the end of the day we learnt a lot about the competition and how to prepare for next year. The boys placed third in mathematics and science and should be really proud of that effort.
The biggest victory, though, was the energy the group left the competition with - an energy to take on future competitions of a similar nature and hone their skills working on academic problems as a group.
A huge thanks to Aaron Poulter and all the different staff who helped coach the boys towards this achievement.
Good job Men.
Students involved: Zaden Dijamco, Taylor Bain, Matthew Chinula, George Keene, Alex Walters, Oliver Hughan, Taj Hodder, Daniel Jervis.
