First game of the St Bede's 2019 season

Sapporo Yamanote HS vs "A St Bede's XV"

Today (11 March) sister-school Sapporo Yamanote HS borrowed several St Bede's players in order to play against an U18 selection on the back fields. The result was a "win" to the Yamanote team, but given the fact that more than half of the 11 tries scored were by St Bede's players, both schools "won" in one way or another.

Yamanote head coach Mikio Satoh commented: "We are very grateful to everyone at St Bede's College who was involved in providing us with such quality opposition today.  Having come from Sapporo, where it is still about zero degrees celsius during the day, with plenty of snow still on the ground, it was a true pleasure for our boys to be able to play on such a superb surface. Needless to say there were many cases of cramp as the game progressed. Nevertheless, the boys gave their best, and the St Bede's "borrowed players" certainly contributed to an entertaining game of rugby.  We are really happy that the exchange between our two schools that dates back to 2003 has started again. I would also like to thank the families who accepted our players into their homes for the last two nights. We are very grateful for your kindness."

Thank you to everyone who made today's game possible.
