Today I wanted to draw your attention to two series of sports biographies we have in the library, one of which has just arrived. The Ultimate Football Heroes series are very short and easy to read biographies about a bunch of famous soccer stars. They follow each star from their humble beginnings to where they are now, and also include awards the player has obtained, statistics about each player, and a fun ‘test your knowledge’ section. The writing style is conversational and engaging, making this series a fantastic set of books for boys who find reading a challenge for any reason.

The Caioli series is a significant step up in terms of reading difficulty, but the books in this series are still fairly short compared to most biographies. They also focus on football stars and most include colour photos and interviews with the people closest to the players. We have had this series for a year or so, and they have proven really popular with students – so much so that we have multiple copies of them.

In addition, we have a bunch of basketball biographies, with books on Kobe Bryant, Stephen Curry, Kevin Durant and Abdul-Jabbar Kareem. These are constantly popular. We have biographies about surfers, tennis players, cyclists, rugby players, racing car drivers and many more sporting disciplines, so there is definitely something for everyone. Please do remember it is fine to take books home for the approaching school holidays. As long as they come back next year, we are more than happy for students to collect some holiday reading.
