From the Rector

Mr Justin Boyle —

Greetings from St Bede’s

Miserable weather didn't dampen the spirits for the Variety Concert last night. For some who performed, it was not the first time and it has been great to see their development. For others, it was their first at a Variety Concert and two Year 9s, Liam Hulme and Tihema Humm made outstanding debuts, Liam on the piano and Tihema leading a 40-strong Kapa Haka group 'christening' a new haka which they have worked on for the last few months. Other debut performances included the Year 11 Drama group, plus the Junior Choir. A packed Performing Arts Centre enjoyed an outstanding night's entertainment.

Our winter sports' programme continues, and of note this week were the 1st Basketball team's impressive victory against CBHS and the Football teams who once again performed well on Wednesday.

The 1st XV Rugby team travel to Timaru tomorrow to play the unbeaten Timaru Boys' High School 1st XV. To acknowledge the 100-year association of rugby clashes, the O'Sullivan family will present the cup to the winning captain to mark the occasion. Five generations of the family have attended St Bede's, and Kevin O'Sullivan, Head Boy of St Bede's College in 1966, was a long-serving Rector of Timaru Boys'.

On Monday night, parents of juniors and of prospective students are invited to a consultation evening to view and respond to how our Junior Curriculum could look next year.

I am conscious that next week is "National Volunteer Week" and I am acutely aware that our College community relies heavily on volunteers. We are blessed to have many good, generous people who donate their time and skills to helping out in so many areas of the College - boards, committees, coaches to name a few. In this National Volunteer Week, could I say a big thank you to all those generous volunteers in our community.

Stay warm!
