FROM THE LIBRARY
Don't stop reading over lockdown!
Even if you haven't got any books at home, there are a bunch of free electronic resources you can access. The best source for free ebooks and eaudiobooks is Christchurch City Libraries - as long as you have a membership, you can log in and borrow from a huge range of resources, including emagazines as well. If you don't have a membership, you can sign up online and still access resources immediately. There is plenty of help on their website in terms of setting up your device for the first time. Under the eResources drop-down, select the eResource you are interested in under 'Featured' to find out how to set up and use each type of resource. If you get stuck, there is a good 'eResources FAQs' under 'Essentials' as well. You can also use 'Liveonline' to have an online chat to a librarian who can talk you through the process.
The sources below are also worth having a look at, if you can't access Christchurch City Libraries:
- Listen and read-along audiobooks, novellas, short stories, high interest non-fiction, articles and songs: http://esl-bits.net/
- Free eAudiobooks by NZ authors for young adults read on National Radio: https://www.radionz.co.nz/collections/not-for-children
- Free adult and children's eAudiobooks, mostly classics: http://www.loyalbooks.com/genre/Children
- 800 free downloadable eBooks, mostly classics but some newer material: http://www.openculture.com/free_ebooks
- More than 57,000 classic free eBooks: https://www.gutenberg.org/
- A selection of free ebooks are offered every month from Simon Teen: https://rivetedlit.com/
Also, please ignore any overdue notices you receive via email over lockdown. These are generated automatically, and I cannot turn them off while we are offsite. It would be great if you could remember to bring your overdue and lost items back once we return to school, but until then, disregard any notices. Thank you, and sorry for any inconvenience this causes. I can be contacted over lockdown via email ( cwalker@stbedes.school.nz ), so please don't hesitate to get in touch if you have any questions.
Thank you, and stay safe,
Chrissie
