Good luck to all teams.

The Senior side have had a particularly busy period within the Thomson Trophy since the term commenced with regular Tuesday night action and a catch up from the Silverstream exchange also slotted in.

Unfortunately the side has been unable to secure victory in these games with first game following holidays getting off to a poor start allowing St Andrew’s to score 40 points on the opening quarter and despite making improvements at the defensive end went down 76-93 . In the following games Bede’s have pushed both Cashmere & St Thomas. Lining up against Cashmere with a lineup hit by injuries, the team lifted and competed for much of the game but couldn’t stick with Cashmere in the closing minutes and went down 84-91.

In the final round of the regular season for Thomson Trophy, the senior side came agonisingly close to pulling off a victory over St Thomas.

After trailing for much of the match, a second half surge saw the team hold the lead heading into the final stages. St Thomas seized upon a couple of turnovers and with seconds left on the clock drew level and sent the match into overtime.

The visitors dominated this extra period and went on to win 104-96. Ashton Walls was a standout performer for Bede’s with 32 points, including 5 3s whilst Harrison Earl was a force in the paint with 24 points and 18 rebounds. Jacko Siave & Griffyn Westwood chipped in 14 and 11 points respectively.

This sees the side play Christchurch Boys' High next Tuesday 8pm at Cowles Stadium with the winner advancing to the playoff stage. Will also be filmed by ARA Polytech media students and would be awesome to get a huge crowd down to Cowles to support the boys.

On the rep scene, several of our players participated in National or Mainland tournaments across the country during recent school holidays. Griffyn Westwood’s U17 Canterbury side won the national title, taking down Auckland 107-91 in the final in Dunedin. Ashton Walls & Thomas Martin played in the same tournament for North Canterbury, with James Leen unable to take the court due to an injury suffered during the Silverstream exchange.

At the U15 Nationals held in Auckland, Agar Torres & Cooper Siave featured in a Canterbury side which finished 5th, losing just one game across the tournament, to eventual winners North Harbour. Troy Cutbush was part of the North Canterbury team which finished strongly, capping off a tough week with a win against Harbour B in their final game.

Closer to home, Joseph Brogan played for North Canterbury in the Mainland Tournament at the Selwyn Events Centre, with his side securing the U18 Boys title.

Congratulations to this group of young men who were awarded basketball and/or service to sport pockets Last week.

Well done to Harrison Earl, Griffyn Westwood, Ashton Walls, James Leen, Harvery O'Neill, Angus Stewart, Jacko Siave & Hunter Cutbush (unfortunately absent) for your contribution to basketball at St Bede's.
