Justin Boyle —

This has been an extremely busy week, as we farewelled our Seniors.

Last Friday, we were able to hold the Leavers’ Ball, an event looked forward to all year and which we were glad could go ahead this year. It was a night of glitz and glamour, camaraderie, and enjoyment, for Year 13s, parents, grandparents, and staff.

Last night, we held the senior Prizegiving at the Aurora Centre. The number of prizes gained by the boys, shows the hard work that they have put in over a year that has been hard with not only Covid at the beginning, but the flu causing havoc through the middle of the year.

This morning, we had our Leaver’s Breakfast, where Karen Robb, mother of Ollie, and Sam Lucas, father of Reilly, gave moving addresses that were much appreciated by the 280 people assembled and this was followed by the Leavers’ Mass. Again, these are huge events for the boys and their parents, celebrating the end of not only their time at St Bede’s, but their Secondary schooling. Unfortunately, due to shipping delays, we were unable to hold our Leavers’ Tie ceremony, but these ties will be sent to the boys and we hope they will wear them with pride as Old Boys of the College.

As one Head Boy leaves, another steps into those shoes and we wish Christian Ioane, Head Boy for 2023 all the very best.

To the Leavers of 2022, we wish you all the best as Fr Walls said this morning in his homily “You begin the rest of your life”. And a challenge from him to keep front of mind  not only to lead the successful life a good education gives, but also to be good men as husbands, fathers, employers and employees.
