Rugby reUnion
It was wonderful to welcome members of our 1962 and 1963 1st and 2nd XVs back to school over the weekend.
Fond memories of infamous matches, of school high jinks, and of teammates who have passed on. There was plenty of lively conversation among these old boys, many of whom had not seen each other since they walked out of St Bede's famous gates on their last day of high school.
As part of their reunion, the group came together to watch the St Bede's College 1st XV home game against St Thomas of Canterbury College. Although the match result did not go the way of St Bede's (the final score was 20 / 22 to St Thomas) the action on the field provided great entertainment to this audience who fully appreciate the ups and downs of schoolboy rugby.
The group enjoyed lunch together in the College's Performing Arts Centre and a meal out following the game at The Commodore Hotel. They also reconvened on Sunday morning to celebrate Mass together in the Chapel of St Bede officiated by Fr. Earl Crotty SM and Fr. Allan Jones SM.
We were honored to have Lord Fred Sevele, 14th Prime Minister of Tonga and member of the 1963 1st XV, in attendance.
Special thanks to Pete Higinbottom and Mark Craddock for all of their help in making this reunion weekend possible.
