Sickness and NCEA exams

Students who have missed an NCEA exam due to illness, misadventure or exceptional circumstances or who felt their performance may have been impaired may be eligible to apply for a Derived Grade

Any impairment must be significant eg a cold or upper respiratory tract infection is not considered significant, and emotional upsets such as stress due to exams are also not included.

Applications are based on standard specific evidence held by the school. At St Bede’s this comes from their school exam. Students are encouraged to sit the NCEA exam where possible and if their application is successful, they will then be awarded the best of the Derived Grade or the NCEA exam result. Students need to make individual Derived Grade applications on the appropriate application form which requires a Registered Health Professional to undertake a clinical examination. This needs to be timely so that the nature, extent and timing of the illness or impairment can be attested to.

See Mrs Kilpatrick for the application form.
