Northern Corridor Expansion News

St Bede's College Office —

An update on the progress - changes at Chaney's On-ramp

The current two-laned Chaneys on-ramp will be closed on 30 May and a new neighbouring one-laned diversion road will be opened.

This change will allow the construction of the Christchurch Northern Corridor tie-in to the existing Northern Motorway. Drivers using the new diversion road may encounter congestion at peak times as this temporary road allows for only one lane of traffic.

This new diversion road will be in place until the Christchurch Northern Corridor is open to traffic in 2020. Once the Christchurch Northern Corridor is open there will be no motorway access at this point. Access onto the motorway will be further west via the existing Main North Road/ Dickeys Road intersection.

Piling on CNC

We are using timber piles to support many of the structures on the new Christchurch Northern Corridor motorway. We now have two rigs on site installing the timber piles for the bridges we are building over QEII Drive and the Main North Road. If you would like more info about the piling in these areas, the works notices are attached.

Information on the Christchurch Northern Corridor project is also available in the project website www.nzta.govt.nz/cnc

First Customer Satisfaction Survey Results.

The CNC Alliance project team would like to thank all of you who participated in our first customer satisfaction survey. We promised to report back so here are the overall results from the survey.

We received 125 responses to the survey which focused on peoples’ satisfied with construction progress, traffic management during construction and our communication. The overall results were as follow:

  • 84% are satisfied to very satisfied with the communication and engagement so far.
  • 75% are satisfied to very satisfied with the traffic management on site and how we communicate on changes.
  • 69% are satisfied to very satisfied with the construction, how we work and how we try to minimise impact and if our workers on site are helpful.

Your comments on how we can improve have been shared with the wider project team and our subcontractors, and included:

  • Communications - hard copies, bigger maps, more visuals, more information on Cranford Street and advising on the connectivity with local roads when the motorway is finished
  • Traffic management - more details, more signage, consideration by truck drivers exiting work sites onto local roads
  • Construction - more information on noise mitigation, better signage, speed control, truck movements and tidiness.

If you have raised a specific concern, question or even a suggestion; we are still in the middle of investigating these further and we will answer you personally if you have provided your contact details. We will incorporate answers and information on general questions and suggestions raised in our upcoming project publications. We are very sorry our work has moved the Pukeko off our work site – they apparently now find some nearby veggie gardens too delicious to stay away from.

The CNC Alliance project team is committed to provide timely, accurate and helpful information and to positively engage with the people we are affecting during the construction of the new motorway. We will be asking residents in the areas and all our stakeholders about the quality of our project management twice a year.

Your feedback provides a direct link back to our zone managers, our traffic management team and the wider team delivering the project to improve our work and enhance our engagements.

All survey responses will remain confidential and your details will stay private and confidential (the project team will not share or publish this). Please know that the survey is undertaken by the CNC Alliance project team and checked by the client organisations: NZ Transport Agency and Christchurch City Council.

I hope you have found this information useful and interesting.
