Mr Justin Boyle —

Greetings from St Bede’s College.

The balmy temperatures this week are a reminder of summer, and the weather behaved for our Open Day on Wednesday.

250 boys signed in, and we hosted well over 600 people in total who came in the gates, which for many was their first time. Our senior students who volunteered to show them round were marvellous ambassadors, taking the time to show the young boys, their parents and sometimes their grandparents the College. As in previous years, we have received excellent feedback about the manner in which the boys introduced their College.

In the evening a number of the boys spoke to the parents, and once again did us proud in the natural manner they outlined various facets of College life, to newcomers to the College.

There, we also spoke about the purpose of the College, which in a nutshell, is to help parents shape their sons in our Catholic environment,

We were also in a position to share the very good academic results achieved in the last two years, and Mr McDowall’s analysis of our 2018 results compared to other schools in the South Island. His analysis reveals that St Bede's has on average across the three levels of NCEA and university entrance, the best results of any state and integrated boys' school in the South Island. We are similarly placed among South Island Catholic schools as well. This is a great testimony to our dedicated staff who go the extra mile for our students.

As you can see, the newsletter that follows once again reflects the busy nature of our College, and the many sporting, cultural and community activities going on. As the term progresses I look forward to bumping into you at various sports or cultural events as you support your sons.

Until next week.
