Rowing

Kerry Sullivan —

This weekend we head to Lake Hood, Ashburton for our first Regatta of the 2021/2022 Rowing Season.

Whilst the weather doesn’t look great, all competitors will face the same conditions and the opportunity to benchmark ourselves against other squads will be valuable feedback on the fitness, strengthening and technique training, we have already completed this season.

Head Coach Dale Maher leads our Senior Squad, and has been quietly pleased with how quickly the seniors have re-established their fitness after the winter hiatus from training. With strong retention in last season's crew, expect to see last season's results spur these rowers along as they look for the opportunity to show just how good they are.

Heading our Novice Rowers this season we have Scott Rogers, he views us as having had ‘an incredible start to the rowing season, with some very keen and fit young men who are learning fast and having a great time doing it. Already, the lads are working towards racing at their very first regatta. They have learnt the basic rowing stroke, and they will have the opportunity to learn more about smart training, nutrition, recovery and commitment over the next few months. There’s a very positive and supportive culture within the entire rowing team, and everyone is keen to get racing under way’.

If your son is interested in challenging himself to work hard in a team environment, it is not too late to sign up. St Bede's rowers train on the Waimakariri River, which allows us to row without the restrictions that apply on the Avon. If you think your son would like to get super fit, and enjoy the experience, register your interest now, by contacting:
