Northern Corridor Update

Lots has been happening, see the update below

UPDATE: CHANEYS ON-RAMP TO ONE LANE DIVERSION AND TEMPORARY LANE CLOSURE ON MAIN NORTH ROAD

To construct the Christchurch Northern Corridor so it can tie into the existing Northern Motorway we have to temporarily divert traffic using the Chaneys on-ramp.

The current two lanes on Chaneys on-ramp will be closed, the new diversion road next to it provides for one lane of traffic.

Diversion Road Chaneys on-ramp

The current Chaneys on-ramp will now be closed to all traffic from Monday 10 July. Drivers will be able to use the Chaneys on-ramp diversion road to access the motorway (SH1). We had promised to open this road earlier however we needed to ensure the pavement and barriers were well placed and this took longer than anticipated. You may encounter congestion at peak times as the diversion road allows for only one lane of traffic. We apologise for the inconvenience and thank you for your patience.

TEMPORARY LANE CLOSURE MAIN NORTH ROAD

To accommodate a storm water pipe installation we will have to close part of the traffic lane heading east on Main North Road between Chaneys on-ramp diversion road and Marshland Road from Monday, 10 July till Wednesday, 19July.

  • Eastbound traffic will be able to enter the Chaneys diversion road but can’t access Marshland Road.
  • Westbound traffic heading from Marshland Road onto Main North Road will not be affected.
  • Cyclists heading east on Main North Road will be able to pass the work site.

The blue line on the map overleaf shows the location of the Chaneys on-ramp. The red line shows the location of the eastbound traffic lane closure.  See brochure below.

NIGHT WORK ON QEII DRIVE AND PHILPOTTS ROAD INTERSECTION

As part of our services relocations we will need to work during the nights of Monday 10 July till Thursday 14 July on QEII Drive (three nights) and for one night on Philpotts Road near the intersection. The work starts around 6pm till the following morning 6am.

We are trenching across the road at four different locations (starting west of Hills Road and working towards Philpotts Road). Due to the heavy traffic flows during the day we have to do this work at night.

Traffic Impact

During this work the traffic on QEII Drive and on Philpotts Road near the intersection will be managed with a stop/go person; one lane of traffic will have to wait for the other side to pass along the work sites. If you are travelling on QEII Drive and/or use the intersection at Philpotts Road please  expect delays, slow down near the work sites and take extra care. See red lines on the map for the four work site locations.

Construction Impact

To upgrade QEII Drive to four traffic lanes we need to relocate certain power and telecommunication cables.

At four locations, for one night each, we will be using concrete cutters, excavators and compactors to trench, relocate the service and then reseal the areas where we are trenching.

There will be some noise from trucks, machinery and the crew working overnight. The crew need lights to see what they are working on, so you may notice extra light coming from the road.

We apologise for the inconvenience and thank you for your understanding.
