The Bedean Choir awarded Silver at The NZCF Big Sing Cadenza!

Ashleigh Mowbray —

It was a big weekend for St Bede's Music as The Bedean Choir took to the road - headed for The Big Sing Cadenza in Timaru!

This is the first time that the Bedean Choir has been invited to participate in the Cadenza and needless to say we were thrilled to be there!

As soon as the choir arrived on Friday they went straight into rehearsals before performing a set of three songs to a full audience and the adjudicators. They were then taken through to participate in a workshop with renowned choral educator, Elise Bradley.

On Saturday we watched the remaining six choirs perform and then participated in two more workshops. After watching the other choirs on Saturday evening The Bedean Choir performed one final time - singing the traditional Samoan nursery rhyme Si manu la’iti’iti, accompanied by Mr Hardinge on the Pātē and Mrs Charlton on bass drum.

The movements for Si manu la’iti’iti were choreographed by Year 12 student Lorenzo Noa Siaosi and he, along with Heinrich Muller (Year 11) and Gafatasi Ierome (Year 10) led the choir in its performance.

At the end of the evening all the choirs were awarded either a Bronze, Silver or Gold award and The Bedean Choir were awarded Silver!

Thanks to Julia Horsnell and Ashleigh Mowbray for accompanying the choir on piano and oboe respectively.

And finally a massive thank you goes out to Mrs King, Mr Hardinge and Choir Director, Mrs Charlton, for all of the hard work, time and energy that went into not only taking the choir to Timaru but all the rehearsals as well. We couldn't have done it without you!
